User experience and interface design for NIK (New in Kitchen), a mobile app project created for beginners in cooking. This project was initially intended for international students who are living alone abroad, however, it is usefull for all those people who are New In Kitchen.
In most of the cases, cooking becomes a really challenging activity, specially for international students, who are living abroad without their families.
A significant percentage of them have never touched a kitchen before. On the other side, cooking blogs and online tutorials on platforms such as YouTube or Instagram are not always useful. The recipes that you find there need ingredients that you do not even know or cannot get easily.

After establishing the problem, I focused on the users and their experience, analyzing these aspects through useful user experience tools, such as personas and journey maps, among others, which helped me to have a better understanding of the problem.
As a result, I concluded the target user could be expanded in order to cover more people, who might not be international students, but still New In Kitchen.

The main objective was to make NIK a sort of ‘personal trainer’ in the kitchen. In that order of ideas, the app should not be created in order to offer a self-taught experience. Instead, the interactive functionality would focus on detailed explanations, ingredients and items lists, and supervised cooking tasks.
Additionally, the app would be a tool to help the user to create and update shopping lists, know what to buy and where to find it, and interact with other users and their recipes, mixing the users’ kitchen with the exterior world and other cookers.
